My wife and I fortunately stumbled across Cyril several years ago when he was playing at a boiled dinner at the legion hall in Great Narrows. We’d never heard of him (we live in Arizona), but immediately fell in love with him and his music. I bought two of his CDs and learned several of the songs. I’m sorry for your loss, and for all of ours. He lives on through all of us and will continue to live through our children.

Heartbroken to hear of Cyril’s passing. I first heard his voice through his songs with Brakin Tradition, and my appreciation grew when I discovered his solo work. He expressed his soul through his music and was a true artist. I was honoured to host two house parties in Fredericton during his winter tours to Upper Canada, where his Celtic charm and Cape Breton generosity were appreciated by everyone in attendance. Cyril had the ability to make everyone he met, even for the first time, feel like they were his best friend. I count my blessings by twos for having been privileged to meet him. Sending peace to all the family.

Dear Rhodena and Haley,
I am so very saddened to hear of Cyril's passing.
My heart goes out to you both and your extended families. I want you to know I can understand your mixed feelings of grief. My father also suffered through 15 years with Parkinson's. It was a very difficult final few years, especially on my Mom, who was by his side daily in his final days in hospital and in the nursing home. My deepest sympathy and prayers for comfort and strength through the next stages of your grieving.
With love, Kathy MacNeil (Stone) (Glenn's ex-wife)

I was just thinking about my father-son trip about 10 years ago. I’m from Texas, and it was a bucket list to visit Nova Scotia. My son (11 at the time) and I stayed at the Keltic Lodge. After dinner, I heard some wonderful music, and it was Cyril. We listened and sang every song, the next morning, Matthew and I were eating breakfast , and we saw Cyril and told him what a wonderful time we had listening to him the previous night. He ended up signing the cd I purchased and sat down with us for breakfast. Truly a class act and a gentleman. He singing with the angels, today. It was 10 years ago that my Mom passed, so this is double the sadness. Prayers for the family…

First encounter with Cyril was via phone, 1991 through a connection with a dear friend of both Cyril's and mine Ray Legere. I was looking for a copy of the Music Man CD which I fell in love with and wanted to play though our out door sound at Spinnaker's Landing in Summerside PEI. Cyril sent me one @ no charge. A month later I called Cyril for an other one, as a summer staff member stole it. I think Cyril thought I was scamming him. Lol. Fast forward 1995 while doing Horse and buggy ride in Cavendish PEI and with a family on board, for an hour long ride. With me having fun with the kids asking where they were from and what their names were they responded that their Dad's name was Cyril. When asked what the last name was, that is when I turned about and said Thee, Cyril Macphee. I can still to this day hear Rhodena say " Can we not go anywhere. But a great evening was had back at my camp around the fire. Next encounter was at Ray and Jill Legere's wedding . Cyril sang his song When I Say I Do. Wow. I married Acadian Fiddler Louise Arsenault in 2009,you can guess what I had her son and daughter play at our wedding. Just so greatful Louise and I had our visit with Cyril and Rhodena in Bedegue CB August 2010. My all time favorite Cape Breton performer. You will never be forgotten.

Rhodena, Haley,
Janet and I have known Cyril since the early 1980s while at a Bluegrass festival in the valley when we happened to come across the wonderful blending of his group, Notework. We have been friends ever since. Over the years, we've attended many shows, concerts and house parties, either as audience members, sharing the stage with my groups of jamming in our livingroom.
Through all this time, Cyril has provided us with many memorable performances mixed with his light humour and infectious smile. It was a few years ago now, when Janet and I had a visit with you and Cyril at your home and I shall cherish our time together before this dreadful desease sapped the very core of his being. I'm sad to say, I didn't wish to see him during the latter part of life under these conditions.
I wish to inform you that I am working on a special two hour Tribute to Cyril on my radio program, Cape Breton Calling this Saturday, Feb 8th from noon until 2PM. The program can be listened to on CIOE, 97.5 FM here in the HRM area or listen live anywhere on the web at communityradio.ca. You can also pick it up on TuneIn, a global radio streaming service. I have selected music from Notework, Brakin' Tradition, his solo CDs and one CD with Rob MacLean.
My dear friends, although Cyril is no longer with us, his memory and his music will live forever in our hearts. Take solice in the knowledge that he is no longer suffering in the earthly body he had been captive for so long. May you be comforted by the love and support of family and the many friends he had ammased over the years. If you are in need of anything, please feel free to call or text. We will be here for you.
Love,
Janet and Tony

I really loved this guy ! I played with a lot of great musicians in my life but none any more special than Cyril. I remember waiting patiently for his next Governor's gig so I could go sit down and play with him. Played a couple of gigs on main street Baddeck with him and had a ball. Cyril always had a good joke to tell and would always greet me with a good Goddamn, soupe du jour saying of his. He was certainly proud to be of Acadian descent as well as a good Scot ! He will be missed for the fantastic musician, singer/songwriter/storyteller that he was. He was always so proud to sing "Nova Sotia to me".
Rest in Peace Cyril for all the good that you have done in this life sharing not only your gift of music
but your humor, your smile and for your genuine love for others . You will never be forgotten !!!!!!!
Your friend, Marcel.

I met Cyril when I was working with the Garrison Bros in the early 80s. We could go years without seeing each other then suddenly, at a coffee shop or restaurant, or a Music Store, we'd meet and it was like it had been only days since our last chat. The thing I remember most about him was his smile; it lit up a whole room.
Cyril was loved by all but more importantly (to me) he was respected among his peers. I will certainly miss him and the joy he brought to the world.
