A friend sent me the obituary of Elaine.
I was one of the coaches of that basketball team that she welcomed late that New Year’s Eve many years ago and can tell you of the generosity of this wonderful woman.
The power out, late at night, we knocked on her door, explaining that our van was hung up on a snow bank out in front of her house. We were cold and wet from trying to push our way out of the bank.
“Could we come in and get warm. With lantern in hand shape answered “sure”.
We returned with our 13 high school players.
Over the next day she showed us a cheerful hospitality that could only be described as spectacular, even for we Cape Bretoners.
For the rest of my teaching career I told my classes of this remarkable woman and her good cheer and kindness.
I mourn her passing but thank God for her having lived.

To all the Mac Neil and Owens families, thinking of you all during this difficult time. We lost one of the sweetest, most sincere and hard working family members on Jan. 31/25. From the time I married into the Owens family I had a great admiration for Elaine. She would make you feel welcome no matter where you met up with her. She always made time to come talk to you and ask how everyone is doing. During Harold’s sickness with cancer Elaine called me several times just to ask how Harold was doing and always asked how I was doing making sure I knew that if she could help us with anything she was just a call away. You were definitely a role model to many Elaine, a hard worker, never scared to give a helping hand and always making time to share your love. You will be missed by many and remembered by all. Rest in peace with your husband Martin and all past family. Linda Owens and family!

She was one of the strongest women I ever met, her heart had to be to big for her chest. She would help anyone anytime. I don’t know how she could find the time to help anyone because she was raising her family, farming , fishing, gardening and in the wood pile cutting wood. I don’t think there is another woman on the planet that could keep up to her. She amazed me. Her and Martin raised a large family and they are all the kindest people you could meet.

A beeautiful tribute to an amazing lady. Always so welcoming and like a grandmother to me. Every Sunday of my childhood I would join the big family table for supper and get to enjoy the beauty of the farm in Soldiers Cove. Forever in my heart
