Mary Joan Elizabeth Casey Obituary

Mary Joan Elizabeth (Betty) Casey nee Sampson

It is with great sadness that we announce Betty’s passing on Tuesday, January 28th at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. She was the eldest daughter of the late Archie and Emma (Horne) Sampson.

Betty was born and lived in Little Dover, working at various fish plants until she met her husband Herb. She and Herb were married in 1981 and made their home in Fairhaven, Massachusetts until recently, when declining health forced them to move. During their time together they were inseparable, working and travelling together around the US; and annual trips to Nova Scotia. Upon Herb’s death in August, she moved back to Nova Scotia to live out her final days.

Betty will be mourned by sisters Effie, Doris, Diana and Patsy; brothers Francis, Colin, Neil, Eric, Donnie and Billy and their spouses; as well as many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her US family, step-children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Herb, brothers Gordon, Campbell and Shirley.

Cremation Has taken place. Visitation will take place on Friday, February 7 from 12 noon until time of funeral mass at 1 p.m. both in St. Agnes Parish Hall, Little Dover with Father Jonathan officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.
