Williams, Leland Charles - 84, Guysborough, died Friday, September 25, 2009 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Dort’s Cove, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Uloth) Williams. Leland was a self-employed auto body mechanic and a lifetime fisherman. He was a member of St. Ann’s Parish, Guysborough. Leland was a veteran of World War II, having served with RCNVR, on board HMCS Eastveiw, a member, past President and Padre for many years, of Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 81, Guysborough, a member of the Guysborough Volunteer Fire Dept. A recipient of many community citations, including the Meritorious Service Medal from Royal Canadian Legion. He is survived by his wife, Katherine “Kaye” (Gillis), son, Ian (Shelia), Timberlea; daughters, Elaine (Greg) Shanks, Fort McMurray, Alberta; Cathy (Peter) Lombardo, Guysborough and Sheena (Bob) Denny, Island Veiw, Cape Breton. Also leaving to mourn are his grandchildren, Christopher Amyot, Luke Williams, Evan Williams, Teagan Lombardo, Keaton Lombardo, Mairi Denny and Kaylei Denny. He is the last surviving member of his immediately family. He was predeceased by a daughter in infancy, sisters, Evelyn, Mabel, Mildred and Verna; brothers, Carl and Willard. Visitation will be held Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Guysborough with Fr. Jonathan Nweke officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery. A reception to follow in the Royal Canadian Legion, Br 81, Guysborough. Memorial donations in memory of Leland may be made to St. Ann’s Building Fund or Guysborough & Area Food Bank.
