Munroe, Thelma Joyce (George) … 63, Canso, passed away after a brief illness Tuesday, January 20, 2009 in Eastern Memorial Hospital, Canso. She was born in Peas Brook, a daughter of the late Jacob and Margaret (Hanlon) George. Thelma leaves behind her loving husband and best friend Fred Munroe, also leaving to mourn her loss is her son Lloyd (Cindy Stevens) and daughter Michelle (Allan) Hendsbee. Thelma’s pride and joy were her grandchildren Jackie and Angel, she had so much love for all especially her step-grandchildren, Steven Hendsbee, Josh and Ashton Stevens and Jeshuah Munroe. Left to mourn her loss are sisters Irene Fanning , Little Dover; Pauline Saver, Halifax; and Dorothy Marshall, USA. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Thelma was predeceased by sisters Olga and Cora; brothers Lloyd and Raymond. Thelma was known for her kindness to others and will be sorely missed by many in the community of Canso and will be remembered as one of the kindest people, who gave unselfishly of herself to others. Her home was opened to young and old alike, where she welcomed everyone with a smile. Thelma was a long time member of the Canso Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a member of TOPS for more than twenty years.
In keeping with Thelma’s wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m., Friday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in All Saints Anglican Church, Canso, with Rev. Dennis Hayward officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Family flowers only please.
