Obituary
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
A death has occurred and our lives have changed forever with the death of our brother John Howard. John Howard’s long life dealing with the effects of Cerebral Palsy provided us a great example. He was not a stoic, but found ways to enjoy life that were exceptional for one with his physical limitations. He was always positive, interested, and interesting. His adventurous spirit and his love of travel were his classroom. His ardent knowledge of genealogy, his love of music and family gathering were highlights of his life. He loved his politics and sports especial watching the “boys” playing hockey and baseball.
Although he was from Whiteside he was a resident of the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home where he was loved and actively involved and well respected for the past 12 years.
John Howard was also an Associate Voting Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 43, Port Hawkesbury. Many were touched by his presence and will share in our family’s sense of loss.
John Howard died in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish on Saturday, July 4, 2009 surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late William D. White and Pearl Shannon-White of Whiteside and is survived by his sisters and brother Pauline (Audley) Thompson, Rhoda (late Robert MacDonald), Lucy (Brian Voss), Pius (Annie Gerrior), Edith (Sylvester MacInnis) and Barbara (late Robert S. Malcolm).
John Howard was the proud uncle of Shannon, Sheldon, Shane, Aaron, Melissa, Kirsten, Bruce, Andrew, Bonnie and Lori. He was adored by his grand nieces Mia, Tara, Melanie Maggie and Olivia and he felt the presence of Laura Beth-Ann prior to his death.
John Howard donated his body to science; thus his legacy will continue to assist and educate the medical profession in the research field for a brighter tomorrow for others.
On Friday, July 10, 2009 a Celebration of his Life will be held at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home ,724 Granville St., Port Hawkesbury with visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 PM with a Prayer Service by The Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 43 at 7:30 PM .
