RYAN, Simon Aloysius— 61, Port Hawkesbury. We are heartbroken to announce the death of Simon, which occurred on Sunday, November 29, 2009, in Strait Richmond Hospital. He died peacefully, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Aloysius and Catherine (Cormier) Ryan.
Simon was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. He was retired from Maritime Tel & Tel (Bell Aliant). He was a member of the AC & TWU; a member of Bell Aliant Pioneers; Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Children's Aid Society and on the Executive of Strait Pirates.
Simon is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Susan (King); son, Troy (Kate) Ryan, Dartmouth; daughter, Robyn (Jonathan) Cooke, Port Hastings. Also survived by his grandchildren, the pride and joy of his life, Logan Simon Cooke, Josie Ryan and Sam Ryan. He is survived by sisters, Helen (Gordon) MacDonald, Middleton; Patricia (late Bob) O'Neill, Pierrefond, Que; Sabine (Tony) Cahill, Whitby, Ont.; brothers, Tom (Anne) Ryan, Chance Harbour; David (Rose) Ryan, Churchville; brother-in-law, Percy (Diane) King, Edmonton, Alta. He leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec 1 from 4-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be held in St. Mark's United Church on Wednesday, Dec 2 at 11a.m. with Rev. Sheldon LeGrow officiating. Burial in Southbrook Cemetery. Please make donations in loving memory to Strait Richmond Hospital Palliative Care Unit or St. Martha's Regional Hospital Oncology Clinic.
