PURSEY, Hazel Bertha – 98, St. Peter’s, died Monday, July 16,2007 in the Richmond Villa. Born in St. George’s Channel, Hazel was the eldest of Christine “Tena” (MacRae) and Alexander “Sandy” MacKay’s eleven children.
Hazel moved to Boston as a young woman to seek employment. She retired from The Boston General Hospital and moved to Murray River P.E.I. with her husband Roy. Hazel continued to work there for several years in the lobster processing plant in Murray River. Hazel returned to Cape Breton and lived in St. Peter’s. Her last years were spent in the Richmond Villa where she was lovingly cared for. She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church. Hazel is survived by sisters Annie Williams, Carp, Ontario, Helen (Jimmie) MacLachlan, Toronto, Ontario; brother Duncan, Wiarton, Ontario, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband John MacFarlane, second husband Roy Pursey, sisters Violet Shea, Dolena Calder, Katherine Easthouse and brothers Johnnie, Willie, Hector and Alex.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11a.m. in the Richmond Villa Chapel, Rev. Jim Bragan officiating. Burial in MacKay Cemetery, St George’s Channel. Memorial donations may be made to MacKay Cemetery or Richmond Villa Activity Department. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, St. Peter’s.
