PETTIPAS, Alphonse John "Al" - 85, Larry's River, Guysborough Co. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our father and grandfather, Al Pettipas who passed away peacefully Saturday, December 8, 2007. Born in Larry's River, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late Peter and Obeline (Gerrior) Pettipas and raised as their son by his uncle and aunt Luke and Mary (Gerrior) Avery. Al was a veteran of the Second World War having served with the Royal Canadian Army Pictou Highlanders ("Men of the Regiment") in Nassau Bahamas 1943, assigned Sergeant "special security" to the Duke of Windsor, Govenor of the Bahamas. He was a former president of the Lions club Nassau Bahamas. He was also a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Larry's River, a member of Branch 81 Royal Canadian Legion, Guysborough. He was a retired registrar of Deeds and Probate, Guysborough. Al was happiest when he was surrounded by family and friends and most content fishing trout in Farm Lake. He enjoyed gardening and his prized flowers. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patsy Drudge; daughters, Mary Alice Neumer, Minneapolis; Patricia "Trish" (Gerard) Long, Lantz; Nancy (Allister) Chisholm, Singapore; sons, William "Bill" (Veronica) Pettipas, Truro; Pierre (Marg) Pettipas, Bible Hill; grandchildren, Megan and Nicholas Pettipas, Ashley Long, Matthew Chisholm, Katy and Nancy Neumer, Andrew and Alicia Pettipas. He was predeceased by brothers, Simon Pitts and Peter Pettipas (New Glasgow); sister, Mary (Tracadie). Arrangements have been entrusted to Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Monday in Communities Along the Bay Multi-Use Facility, Larry's River, Guysborough Co. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 11 at 11 a.m. in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Larry's River, Father Jonathan Nweke officiating. A reception will be held in the, Communities along the Bay Multi-Use facility, Larry's River. Cremation will follow with interment at a later date in St. Peter's Cemetery, Larry's River. Donations in memory of Al may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, 6009 Quinpool Rd., Suite 300, Halifax NS B3K 5J7 or St. Peter's Cemetery Fund, Larry's River, Guysborough Co., B0H 1T0 or a charity of ones choice. A special thanks from the family goes out to Jerry Thompson, Dr. Desormeaux, VON -Nurses, John, Janet, Heather and others, VON-PCW's Cathy, Vanda, Carolyn, Janette, Liz, Tammy and others, Joy Hinch, Euchristic Minister, Anne-Marie DVA caseworker and so many others.
