PETTIPAS, Sherman David - 70, St. Francis Harbour, Guysborough Co., died Thursday, May 22, 2008, in Guysborough Memorial Hospital. Born in Antigonish, he was a son of Florence (DeCoste) Pettipas, Linwood, and the late David Pettipas.
Sherman belonged to the Labourers' Union most of his life. He worked in Hamilton, Ont., as a steeplejack and painter, also worked at the Heavy Water Plant in Port Hawkesbury, and worked with various tradesmen. Sherman loved fishing, hunting, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of St. Francis parish, St. Francis Harbour and St. Francis Harbour Dart Team. He was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Cambrai Branch 37, Mulgrave.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Arletta (Chisholm); sons, Brian, Allan, Larry, and Toby, all of Antigonish; daughters, Lynn (Joey MacLean), Angie (Buzzy Munroe), both of Antigonish; sisters, Betty (Jerome) Sampson, Linda (Art) Stewart, Doreen (Jack) Carr, all of Linwood; brother, Joey (Lorraine), Hamilton, Ont.; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He leaves behind countless nieces and nephews, and valued friends, and will be missed dearly by his wife and family. He was predeceased by brother, Frank.
Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Saturday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Funeral mass will be held 1 p.m. Sunday in St. Francis Roman Catholic Church, Father Robert McNeil officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Sherman to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Francis Cemetery Fund.
