MacINTYRE, Irene Florence — 92, West Bay Road, Inverness Co., passed peacefully away Wednesday, November 25, 2009, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Cleveland, February 17, 1917, she was a daughter of the late John and Margaret (MacCormack) Steele. Irene was a member of St. Margaret's Parish, West Bay Road. She is survived by her son, Paul (Donna), New Glasgow; daughters, Anita (Clyde David) Parris, Dartmouth, and Margie (Gary) Pace, Port Hawkesbury; 13 grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces. Irene was a hardworking person, was an excellent cook and some of her favourite times were talking to old friends, especially if she could use the Gaelic language. Irene was predeceased by husband, Dan Alex; sisters, Cassie, Sadie, Veronica and Carrie; brothers, Roddie and John. Irene was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Special thanks to ALC and PCU units of St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Strait Richmond Hospital, R K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Homecare, Bonnie Hines, Millie and Debbie MacDonald, Father Allan MacPhie and Doctor's Collins and Gallant. Margie would also like to give special thanks to her husband Gary and her children, Sandy, Dennis, Marianne and Chrissy for all they did for Irene throughout the years.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. today in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church, West Bay Road, with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Irene's memory to the Tamarac Education Centre Breakfast Program, St. Margaret's Church or West Bay Road Fire Department.
