LEONARD, Eleanor Jean- 73- It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Eleanor Jean Leonard of Hubley, formerly of Port Hawkesbury announces the passing of their Mother and Grandmother on Sunday, January, 20,2008 at home.
Mom was born in Glace Bay in 1934 to the late James and Mary (MacLeod) MacLean. She grew up in Glace Bay and married our father Bob in 1953. In 1962 they moved to Port Hawkesbury where they resided for many years and raised their six children. Dad passed away in 1979, and Mom continued with managing the home and raising us. She moved to Glace Bay in 2004 and lived there until her illness in 2007 when she moved in with her daughter Karen and her family to share their loving home. Mom was a wonderful mother, always putting her family before all else. Her love for us was unconditional. She was a loving and generous grandmother to her seven grandchildren who adored and cherished her. Left with a tremendous void in their lives are her children Verna Lougheed, Calgary, Ab., Karen (Paul) Vickers, Hubley, Tom, Calgary, Ab., Keith (Linda), Aylesford, David, Glendale, Eileen (Jamie) MacDonald, Port Hastings; grandchildren Robert and Laura Lougheed, Philip and Bradley Vickers, Cody and Travis Mac Donald, Jennifer Leonard; and a very special niece and friend Nancy (Otto) Strong of Glace Bay. Mom is survived by two sisters, Shirley (Aubrey) Donovan, Lower Sackville, Charlotte (Bill) Green, Glace Bay; sisters in law Jean MacLean, Glace Bay, Eileen Cameron, Thunder Bay, On., Diane MacLean, Dartmouth; brother in law Tom (Norma) Leonard, Glendale; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by sisters Mary Brown, Joyce MacLean, Laura MacLeod, brothers Wilsie, Danny, Allie MacLean. Mom touched the lives of many people through her generous and caring nature and we will miss her greatly.
