MacAskill, Effie Margaret – 85, St. Peter’s formerly of Lewis Cove Road passed away peacefully, Monday, June 1, 2009 in the Richmond Villa, St. Peter’s. Born in Lewis Cove Road, Richmond Co., she was a daughter of the late John B. and Effie (Ferguson) MacLeod. Effie worked as a sales clerk at Morrison Stores, St. Peter’s, she enjoyed her years spent as a Registrar at the Battery Park and was a receptionist for Dr. W.B. Kingston Medical Clinic. Effie was a member of St. Peter’s United Church, St. Peter’s U.C.W. and choir and a member of Bonnie Brae Seniors Club. She enjoyed cooking and her oat cakes were legendary, she loved gardening, dancing, Scottish music and children. She is survived by daughter Donna (William) Harnish, St. Peter’s; son Ian (Linda) Dundee; sisters –in–law Bernice MacLeod, Windsor; Mabel MacKillop, Sydney; Lexena MacKillop, St. Peter’s and Lola MacAskill, Grand River, several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Effie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was pre-deceased by her husband Donald; sister, Mamie (John) MacAskill; brothers, John (Sadie), Roddie and Peter (Evelyn). Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 26 Centennial Street, St. Peter’s. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Peter’s United Church, St. Peter’s with Lynn MacKinnon officiating. Burial in Lewis Cove Cemetery. Donations in memory of Effie may be made to Activity Department of Richmond Villa, Lewis Cove Cemetery or a charity of choice. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
