O'NEIL (MacKinnon), Anela Margaret — 89, Mulgrave, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, March 4, 2010, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. She was born in Mulgrave on July 25, 1920. She was a daughter of the late Michael A. and Elizabeth (Carroll) MacKinnon. Anela was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, great great-grandmother, sister and friend.
She will be sadly missed by her family. There was always a warm welcome to everyone who came to visit her and we all enjoyed her baking skills and conversation. She was a devout Catholic, her faith and the well being of her family was her focus in life.
She was predeceased by husband, Frank; sisters, Ruby (MacKinnon) Forreastall, Alena (MacKinnon) Bowser; brother, Carroll MacKinnon and son, John L. O'Neil.
She is survived by daughters, Marlene, New Glasgow; Jo-Anne (John) Strachan, New Glasgow; Mary (Ken) Reid, Terence Bay; sons, Emmanuel (Judy), Oshawa, Ont.; Errol (Audrey), Westville; Carroll (Laurine), New Glasgow; Gerard (Mary Jane), Havre Boucher; David (Laurella), Frankville; brother, Michael T. MacKinnon (Jean), Mulgrave. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
Family will receive visitors today, March 6 and Sunday, March 7, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in Mulgrave and Area Resting Place. Funeral mass will be held in St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Mulgrave, Monday, March 8 at 11 a.m. with Father Allan MacPhie officiating. Burial will take place at later date in the parish cemetery. Following the funeral mass there will be a reception in Mulgrave Fire Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Mulgrave and Area Resting. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
