Obituary
Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
HAYWOOD, Helen Margaret - 92, Manassette Lake, Guysborough Co., passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2007, with her family by her side, in Guysborough Memorial Hospital, where she was well cared for. Born in Manassette Lake, Helen was a daughter of the late Howard and Eviva (Diggins) Carr.
Helen was a wonderful, understanding intelligent person and an amazing mother. She was loved so very, very much and touched so many lives; was faithful and true in her religious beliefs, and always had the ability to adjust to the changing times. She enjoyed and devoted her time to her family and home. After raising 13 children, she worked for seven years for Acadia Fisheries and later worked for the R.K. MacDonald Guest Home, Antigonish. She was a long-time member of St. Francis Parish and St. Francis Ladies Aide. In recent years she enjoyed her membership with the Milford Haven Seniors Club and was known to enjoy a good game of bingo with her friends. Our dear mother will be sadly missed by her children, sisters, sisters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Many delicious meals were served at the family table to family and friends. We will all certainly miss her many pans of oatmeal cookies and biscuits.
She is survived by sons, Howard (Dolly), Ross (Norah), Ernest (Bonnie), Carl (Sue), Ray (Bernice), Sam (Shirley), Thomas (Darlene), and Melvin; daughters, Patricia (Bill), Mary (Harold), Lorraine (Bryce), and Dianne (Wayne); sisters, Ann Nolan, Mary Hirtle, Gertrude Carr; sisters-in-law, Lena Carr and Ethel Carr; foster brothers, Richard Hayden and Andy MacIsaac; 32 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Hilton; son, Cyril; granddaughter, Wendy Chisholm; great-grandson, Jacob Eggstaff; brothers, Ernest, Maurice, and Sam.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Friday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Francis Church, St. Francis Harbour, Father Robert McNeil officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Guysborough Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or St. Francis Cemetery Fund. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
