HADLEY, Harry MacKay - 87, Mulgrave, Guysborough Co., passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008, at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, surrounded by his family. Born on August 28, 1920, he was a son of the late Hattie Maude (MacLeod) and Edward Hadley.
He was a veteran of the Second World War serving 1939-1945 with the First Canadian Armored Corps. Harry was a stoker on the ferry “The Scotia”. He worked as a stevedore and was a member of the International Longshoreman’s Association. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Cambrai Branch 37 and of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Mulgrave. He was a life long Toronto Maple Leafs fan. His love was hockey and horses.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Hortense (Moore); daughters Millie MacKinnon and Gwen (Ernest) Peebles, both of Mulgrave; sons Tom (Lorraine), Jimmy (Mary), Ralph (Beryl), Stephen (Lana), Darrell (Debbie), Michael (Valerie) all of Mulgrave. Eric (Liz) of Truro and Brad (Paula) of Halifax; sister Mae Nicholson of Mulgrave, 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sisters Nita, Sally, Mildred in infancy, brothers Jim, George, Charles, Edgar, Roderick, Ralph in infancy, granddaughter Nicole Peebles and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9pm Sunday at Mulgrave and Area Resting Place.
Funeral service will be 11am Monday in St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Mulgrave with Rev. Susan Best officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Donations in memory of Harry can be made to the Mulgrave and Area Resting Place or the charity of your choice.
