MacGILLIVRAY, Ronald Joseph "Rannie" — 68, Glendale, died Saturday, September 12, 2009, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Rannie was born in Glendale, he was a son of the late Angus and Christina (MacEachern) MacGillivray. Beloved husband of Rachel (Brunet) MacGillivray, loving father of Brenda-Lee (Raymond Theriault), Sturgeon Falls, Ont. and Carole "BooBoo" (Joel Perron), Ottawa, Ont.; cherished grandfather of Stephanie, Riley, Christopher, Rachel and Paige; brother of Donald (Mary), Glendale; John Alex (Cathy), Lively, Ont.; Rose Mary (Dave) Doucet, Sydney; D.J. (Catherine), Mull River; Leonard (Betty) ,Calgary, Alberta; Francis (Mabel), Glendale; Evelyn (David) Burns, Troy; brother-in-law, Alfred LeBlanc, Glendale. Rannie also leaves to mourn mother-in-law, Gracia (Brunet) Doiron, Sudbury, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Elise (Yvan) Denis and Denise Aubertin; brothers-in-law, Ernest (Irene) Brunet and Leo (Dianne) Brunet; 36 nieces and nephews, 33 great-nieces and great-nephews; godchildren, John Angus, Daniel, Sophie and Eric. He was predeceased by brothers, Sam, Lawrence (Barbara) and infant brother, Lawrence Alexander; sister, Catherine Anne LeBlanc. He retired in 1998 with 33 years service from INCO (Nickel Mines) in Creighton, Ont. For many years he volunteered for the French River Voyageurs in French River, Ont., he groomed the snowmobile trails and was known as the Trail Boss. He loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, hunting and snowmobiling. In June 2007, he moved back to his homestead in Glendale. Ron's grandchildren hold a very special place in his heart. Ron loved and was proud of his family and friends. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. today in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, in St. Mary of the Angels Roman Catholic Church, Glendale with Father Barrett Claire-Johnson officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
