King, Kathy Marie (MacKay) - West Bay, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. She was a daughter of the late John A. "Buddy" and the late Reta V. (Smith) MacKay. She is survived by her four children, sons; Adam (Jenny), Larry and Dawson; daughter, Rachael (Jeff) as well as their father, Francis King (Doris), Kempt Road. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nicholas King, Port Hawkesbury and Hannah King, Linwood; siblings, John C. MacKay (Helen), Hilden; Bill (Clair), Port Hawkesbury; Barbara Anne, West Bay; Janie (Colin) Chamberlain, Kempt Road and Shirley (Doug) MacDonald, Evanston; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and three aunts. Kathy enjoyed trips to the racetracks to cheer on the family car, with picnics along the way, usually including her famous butterscotch pie and who could forget her annual homemade doughnut blitz or the New Year’s Eve chicken wings. She liked swimming at the beach, or even to just sit and look at the Bras d’Or Lake. She had the gift of gardening and the roses around her home were the result of her care and nurturing. While out for a weekend drive, while the others were taking photos, she would scatter along the roadside some wildflower seeds she had brought from home. She had taught herself to play the violin and played on stage in the local area. She worked several jobs in the food service industry but recently was content to be at home with her garden and her wildlife visitors. The family would like to thank the staff of the 3rd floor, St. Martha’s Hospital for their kindness to her and to us during her illness, as well as the paramedics and RCMP. We would also like to thank Dennis Haverstock Funeral Homes Ltd. for their assistance. There will be no visitation or service by request. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private burial of ashes at a later date.
