Googoo, Edward “Eddie” … 72, Waycobah First Nation, Inverness Co., suddenly passed away in QEII, Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, with his family by his side. Eddie was born in Waycobah, August 14, 1937. He was a son of the late Charles and Mary Ann (Herney) Googoo.
Edward’s hobbies included traveling, skidooing, boating, fishing, camping and reading the paper. He had a great passion for gardening and music with attending yearly the Stan Roger’s Festival. Edward was a very busy man and worked various places and at many things. He worked as a medical driver for several years and owned many businesses, which included Micmac Cleaning Services, Googoo’s Gas Bar, Basket Shop and Googoo’s Construction. He worked as a pipefitter; he worked at Mechanics Foundry, Boston and at the Heavy Water Plant. He also worked at the Gulf Oil Refinery, Point Tupper for 10 years. Eddie also served his community as a councillor for several years. Eddie enjoyed his little getaways to Mala with Alena and his precious dog, Princess.
He is survived by his partner Alena Usher, daughter, Jennifer (Adrian) Googoo, Waycobah; step-son Allister Julian, Ottawa, Ont.; brother, Raymond (Annie) Googoo, Waycobah; sister, Anna (Andrew Joe) Michael, Waycobah. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, several great- grandchildren, 13 nieces, 7 nephews, 14 grandnieces, 26 grandnephews and 8 godchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Philomena, brothers, James, Simon and Ryan C. and step-son Keith. He will be deeply missed by family and many friends.
Visitation will be held at the family residence, 8856 Trans Canada Hwy., Waycobah after 4 p.m. Saturday. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday from Blessed Katerie Parish, Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Waycobah, with Father Robert McNeil officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
