GILLIS, Jessie Ann Isabel — 64, North East Mabou, Inverness Co., died Wednesday, January 27, 2010, as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Lexington, Inverness Co. Jessie was born in North East Mabou, March 14, 1945, a daughter of the late Hughie and Mary Catherine (Murray) Gillis.
Jessie was an avid Toronto Maple Leaf fan, hunter and enjoyed fishing with anyone who would go with her. She played cards with her friends and loved driving all the back roads. She loved to cook, especially for family and friends. She loved her cat, "Baby" and her dog, "Kayla". She loved her friends, which she had many of, that will miss her so dearly. Jessie loved to help no matter who you were.
She is survived by her partner, Robert Levesque, North East Mabou; her children, John Robert (Joan) Jenkins, Kingston, Mass.; Jocelyn (Wayne) Richards, Afton; Dale Jenkins (Andrea Dunn), Margaree; Kelly (Paul) Renaud, Boston, Mass.; Colleen (Kevin) Ingraham, Cheticamp; Gerard (Cheryl) MacDonald, St. Joachim, Ont.; Karen (Bobby) Aucoin, Cheticamp; Angie (Preston) Burns, Kingston. She is also survived by her brothers, Clarence (Sandra) Gillis, Truro; John Hughie (Mary) Gillis and James Roy (Beatrice) Gillis, both of Inverness; Angus Francis (Francine) Gillis, Quispamsis, N.B., and John Angus Gillis (Ann Morrison), North East Mabou; 18 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother, John Hughie; granddaughter, Ferrari Fraser and sisters-in-law, Sandra Gillis and Mary Gillis.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, in St. Mary's Church Vestry, Mabou. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday, February 1, in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Mabou with Father Angus Morris officiating. Burial at a later date. Donations may be made in Jessie's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
