Gill, Phillip "Phil" Earnshaw - Port Hawkesbury - Sept. 2,1946 – April 17, 2021. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Philip "Phil" Earnshaw Gill on Saturday, April 17th 2021 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. Survived by his sister, Carolyn Langley (Russell), Port Hawkesbury; daughter, Karen Gill, BC; Michael Gill, Alberta; Corina Gill (Bernie), Inverness; Julie Gill (Howie), Alberta; step-daughter, Angela Gill, Port Hawkesbury and Vicki Conrad who he considered a daughter-in-law. Thirteen grandchildren, Alyssa, Michael, Rachelle, Cody, Pateena, Dray, Darius, Justin, Hayden, Geneva, Destiny, Dawson, Dakota and three great-grandchildren, Anthony, Aubree and Shelby. Phil is predeceased by parents, Charles and Lucille Gill; sister, Pam Webber. Phil spent many years working as the Zamboni driver at the old Port Hawkesbury Arena where he met many friends. Those who knew him would best describe him as a socialite who would spark up a conversation with anyone who would listen. Often the topic of his stories was his family who he loved dearly. He enjoyed the simple things in life, listening to the oldies, a good meal out at any of the local restaurants, visits with friends and family and meeting new people. He was truly one of a kind, his spark for life and sense of humour will be greatly missed. Although his time living at the Richmond Villa was brief, he considered it his forever home and longed to return. We would like to thank the staff there, as well as the countless health professionals who cared for him throughout his health battles, also the several close family friends who cared for him in his time of need. There are too many to name, but they know who they are. The care and compassion he received did not go unnoticed. Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 25 from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 1 p.m. with Rev. Susan Slater officiating, both in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Port Hawkesbury. In keeping with COVID-19 guildlines, you will be required to sign in with your name and phone number at the funeral home. Face coverings must be worn at all times and social distancing measures will be in effect. Donations in memory of Phil may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
