Halfpenny, Neta Rosella- Middle Melford, Guys Co.; passed away peacefully in Guysborough Memorial Hospital on Friday, November 6, 2009 in her 93rd year. Born in Middle Melford, Guys. Co., on May 2, 1916, she was a daughter of the late William and Ada Mae (England) Somers. Neta taught school for a few years before becoming a fulltime homemaker. She was a devoted member of St. James Anglican Church. She was a dedicated member and secretary of the St. James Ladies Guild and president of ACW for over 40 years. Neta was a loving mother to her daughter Geraldine Halfpenny-Franklin, Bedford and her son Owen (Mary) Sand Point. She will be fondly remembered and missed by her grandchildren, Owen (Bobbie Lee) Hampton, NB; Anita, Belleville, Ontario; several great-grandchildren, sisters, Jean Matheson, Reserve Mines; Madeline Rafuse, Lower Sackville; Muriel Saulnier, Oromocto, NB. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter, son-in-law, John Franklin; sisters, Jane Morris, Beatrice Halfpenny, Ada Mattie, Ida Belle Fougere, Ethel Somers, Ora Beckerson, Helan Briand; brothers, Seymour, George, and Bill Somers. Neta was a loved and respected pillar of her community. She was always “there” with her kind words and wonderful smile to help others in need. One never left her home without a good cup of tea and delicious lunch. Before her transfer to the hospital, she was able to reside in her home by the Strait of Canso with the loving care of two special ladies Velma and Percy with whom she shared many special days. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in St. James Anglican Church, Middle Melford, with Rev. Susan Best officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to the St. James Church or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. The Family extends heartfelt thanks to Rev. Susan, Doctors and the wonderful Nurses at Guysborough Memorial Hospital, also the dedicated and caring caregivers who came into her home.
