Obituary
Please share a memory of Isabel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Fougère, Isabel Mary – The death of Isabel Mary Fougère occurred peacefully on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax. Isabel was born on May 18, 1942, and was a daughter of the late Edmund and Imelda (Corbett) Fougère. She is survived by her brother, Ronnie (Anne Marie), Truro, sister, Bernadette (Lloyd), Port Hawkesbury and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Isabel was predeceased by her brothers, Al and Edward Michael. Many of Isabel’s traits she lived by were passed on by our parents’ example; her love of God, love of music and especially her love of people. She was a magnet for anyone she met – to share a good laugh or a tear. Her person and house were always available to anyone in need. After graduating high school, Isabel entered the Sisters of Charity. She served as a teacher for 20 years. After leaving the community she maintained a close connection with the sisters often assisting them with various liturgical celebrations. Isabel was a teacher and graduated from Mount St. Vincent University (Education Degree), University Notre Dame (Masters in Liturgy), Dalhousie University, (Masters in Music) and St. Mary’s University (Masters in Education). She taught in Vancouver and in many schools in Nova Scotia, ending up in Halifax. She had students in festivals, choirs in at ferry landings, in pedways at museums, Citadel Hill and the Commons in an effort to have fun while performing and sharing our maritime heritage. She took her students to nursing homes, shopping centers, Christmas Daddies and Churches: anywhere that appreciated children’s choirs. She directed the Mount St. Vincent choir and the Dartmouth Choral Society. She performed with her keyboard at funerals, baptisms, weddings and church liturgies. We would like to thank the staff of Parkstone Enhanced Care for their care of Isabel and a special thank you to her niece, Monique who worked very hard to make Isabel’s life more comfortable. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2021 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 724 Granville Street, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
