DeCOSTE, WILLIAM "DARRELL" - age 64, of Frankville, Antigonish County, passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, November 19, 2021. Throughout the last nine years, Darrell always said to Barb "we are crying on the inside, laughing on the outside" after the loss of their daughter. We know he will no longer be crying as he has finally been reunited with Jenna. Darrell started his career at the young age of 18. As a self-employed drywaller, he took great pride in all the jobs he completed over the last 46 years. Over this time he has met many people and established life long friendships. His days didn’t stop when he clocked out, because to many he was a jack-of-all-trades and lent a helping hand whenever asked. He was a loyal & dedicated husband, dad, grampie, brother & friend. His quick wit, dependability and love hate relationship with the Toronto Maple Leafs will be missed. With Darrell, we never had to question who was the driver and he always got us to our destination safely with lots of laughs. Sundays were often spent watching Nascar, awaiting a phone call from Art for their weekly Mother Webb’s trip. He left a lasting impression (good or bad) on most people he met. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 36 years, Barb (Williams), daughter Melissa, special son in law Daniel and his pride & joy, grandson Thomas William; sisters Jean Lukeman, Beverly (Brian) White; twin brother Derrick (Mary Annette) DeCoste, brothers, Mike DeCoste & Daniel (Brenda) DeCoste; Father in Law, Arthur Williams; sister in laws, Debbie (Robert) Raymond, Linda (Steven) Myette, Patsy Williams; brother in laws, Calvin (Mae) Williams, Gary Williams and Artie (Susie) Williams; his many nieces, nephews and his Godchildren. Born in Antigonish, he was the son of the late Stephen & Priscilla (LeVangie) DeCoste and predeceased by brother, Patrick, in infancy, sister Kathleen Shea MacLellan and mother in law Kathleen Williams. We wish to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Steven Gallant, Dr. Ron MacCormick, the ladies at St. Martha’s oncology department, the staff at VON Antigonish & St. Martha’s palliative care team for their compassion and attentive care. A special thank you to Dr. Emily Rice and Shelley Robertson for their constant support and kind-heartedness throughout Darrell’s journey. Also to Deacon Berkley Guthro for his support and weekly visits, which Darrell looked forward to. Visitation will be in St. Paul’s Centre, Havre Boucher on Monday, November 22nd, from 1pm to 3pm and 6pm to 9pm. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Paul’s Church, Havre Boucher on Tuesday, November 23rd, at 11:00 am. Burial will take place in St. Paul’s Parish Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Darrell’s memory to: Palliative Care Unit, VON Antigonish or charity of choice.
