CUNNINGHAM, Helen Cecilia - 71, Havendale, Guysborough Co., passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Wednesday, May, 7, 2008 in Guysborough Memorial Hospital. Born in Caledonia Mills, Ant. Co., she was a daughter of the late Colin F. and Catherine (Chisholm) Bowles.
She was a member of St. Ann’s Parish, Guysborough. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her love for her grandchildren was unconditional. They will always cherish their memories of her and the life lessons she has taught them. Helen embraced life as a real “people person” and lived by the motto “the more the merrier”. Helen always had the welcome mat out for all and you were always guaranteed a cup of tea and a good lunch. She took great pride in her family and enjoyed meeting a new distant relative. Helen will always be remembered as an advocate for the less fortunate and a keeper of the peace. She was a firm believer in the golden rule and lived by it everyday of her life.
She will be sadly missed and never forgotten. She is survived by five children; Kay (Jimmy) Pelrine, Havendale, Anthony (Janet) Manchester, Paul, Havendale, Ann (Billy) Hadley, Guysborough, Frances (Sam) Cunningham, Havendale; sisters Margaret (Pat) MacNeil, Caledonia Mills, Isabel (Joseph) Worth, Brampton, Ont; brothers Willie-Joe (Barb) Bowles, Caledonia Mills, Jackie (Eileen) Bowles, New Glasgow; nine grandchildren, Carissa, Chelsa, Courtney, Daniel, Devin, Gregory, Ashley, Amanda, Josh, and great-grandson, Colby. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years Louis (Bud) Cunningham, brother Colin A, sister Loretta, grandson Stephen Cunningham and true friend Mary Cleary.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday and 9am Saturday until time of funeral in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday in St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Jonathan Nweke officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
