CARTER, Lawrence F. "Gunner Nick" — 92, of Queensport, passed away quietly on Saturday, July 11, 2009, in Guysborough Memorial Hospital with family by his side. Born in Brookfield, Colchester Co., he was a son of the late Stetson R. Carter and Clara (Strum) Carter. He was a Veteran of the Second World War, 1939-1945. He was a Gunner in the 86th Battery Heavy Artillery in Canada, served general duty in England, and was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Cambrai Branch No. 37, Mulgrave. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family of six brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his wife, Ruby C. (O'Leary) Carter of Queensport; son, Frederick (Mary); daughter, Catherine (Doug) Jamieson; sons, Wayne (Mary Ann), and Donald (Sheila). He is also survived by grandchildren, Steven, Paul, Sheila, Craig, Charlene, Cheryl, Wayne Joe, Danny, Donnie, and great-grandchildren, Zoe, Carter, Rhiane, Matthieu, Nadine, Matthew, Connor, Julia, Shelby, Hunter, and Maggie. He worked in the lumber woods and in the saw mills for five years. He was cold storage foreman for Acadia Fisheries and H.B. Nickerson in Canso, and Matthew's and Scott Fisheries in Queensport. He was Construction Foreman for Dunn Construction and MacInness Construction. He was a true fan of the Boston Bruins - Win, Lose, or Draw; it was still the Boston Bruins. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 15, from 2-9 p.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Church. The funeral will follow on Thursday, July 16, at 2 p.m., with Father Daniel Boudreau officiating and burial in St. Vincent de Paul Church Cemetery. Family flowers only, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Parish Cemetery Fund or Guysborough Memorial Hospital.
