MacKEIGAN (Bennett), Jean - 79, Port Hawkesbury, died Saturday, July 19, 2008, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late John and Agnes (MacDougall) Bennett. Jean was a school teacher, retiring in 1991 after a lengthy teaching career in the Port Hawkesbury school system. She was active in the Retired Teachers Association and was also an active volunteer with the Port Hawkesbury Food Bank. She was a member of St. Mark's United Church, Port Hawkesbury. Surviving are daughter, Pamela, Halifax; son, Ebbie (Gail), Port Hawkesbury; grandchildren, Ryan, Ashley, Madison, Alan, and Emily; sister, Mary "Benny" Sheppard, Glace Bay; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ebbie; son, Kenneth in infancy; daughter, Lesley MacMaster; son-in-law, Joseph MacMaster; brothers, Alec and Jackie. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mark's United Church, Dr. Ann Sherman officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay, 11 a.m. Thursday. Family flowers only.
