BARRIE, Amelia Jane “Millie” -85, Port Hawkesbury, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008 in Northwood Center, Halifax. Born October 4, 1922, in St. Peter’s, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Mary Margaret (Finlayson) Morrison, formerly of St. Peter’s. She was a graduate of the VG School of Nursing , Class of 1945 and the University of Toronto in 1947. She worked as a Public Health nurse in Ontario until retiring to raise her daughter. She returned to Nova Scotia in 1977 and settled in Port Hawkesbury. She will be remembered for her independence and strength to accept life’s challenges with dignity and determination. She is survived by her daughter Jean (David Brett), Halifax and her beloved granddaughter Nicole. She is also survived by her sister Jessie MacDonald, St. Peter’s and sisters-in-law Jessie MacLeod, Port Hawkesbury and Mildred Huntington, Sydney as well as many nieces and nephews .She was predeceased by her husband Albert Barrie, brothers John Aubrey, Howard, Douglas, Lloyd and Melville and sister-in-law Alice Curry. We would like to thank all of her caregivers for their kindness and care over the past year. Thanks to the staff of Strait Richmond Hospital, Port Hawkesbury Home Care, her niece Rita “Dolly” Carter, her neighbours and the Staff of Northwood. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday in St. Mark’s United Church, Port Hawkesbury with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. Burial in Trinity United Church Cemetery, Mulgrave. Family flowers only.
