Borden, Gary Berton - 60, Middlewood, Lun. Co and formerly of Canso; died Sunday, March 1, 2009 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Canso, August 9, 1948, he was a beloved son of Edith (Johnson) and the late Stanley Borden. Gary worked in the fishing industry from the age of 17. He was employed by Fisheries Products International at the time of his death. He was a collector of hats, lighters, and antique cars. Dearly loved by friends and family, he is survived by his mother Edith, Canso; sisters, Jean Schrader, Canso ; Ida Borden and Mildred Howe both of Fredericton, NB; Anita Parker, Guysborough; and Carol Ann Parker, Owl’s Head; brothers, Vernon, Canso; Carl, Mt. Uniacke; Wayne and Russell both of Hazel Hill; Kevin, Truro; John, Canso. Also leaving to mourn special friends, Heather Bollivar; Robbie Mitchell; Diane Slauenwhite; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by father, Stanley; sister Judith and brothers Lorimer and Lawrence “Buck”. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso, Wednesday, March 4 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 5 in St. Paul’s United Church, Canso, Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. Burial in Fourth Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Gary may be made to a charity of your choice.
