Borden, Gertrude May … 84, Sunnyville, Guysborough Co., died Monday, November 30, 2009 in Guysborough Memorial Hospital. Born in Guysborough, February14, 1925 she was a daughter of the late Effie Mintus. Gertie was a long time member of the Ladies Auxiliary Branch 81 Guysborough and was an adherent of Sunnyville United Baptist Church. She is survived by son, Edward (Mary-Lou), Sunnyville; daughter, Edith (James) Clyke, Sunnyville; grandsons, Leroy (Sabrina) Antigonish; Matthew, Sunnyville; Dylan MacLean, Dartmouth; great granddaughter Mya, Antigonish; sisters-in-law, Rita Borden and Dorothy Lucas, both of Sunnyville. She also leaves to mourn, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Laurier and their five children who were tragically taken by a house fire in 1960.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday in Sunnyville United Baptist Church, from where the Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday with Rev. Warren Fitzgerald officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Guysborough. Memorial donations may be made in Gertie’s memory to Sunnyville United Baptist Church or charity of one’s choice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Anita Foley and the other wonderful Doctors and nurses who took such good care of our mother.
