We are sad to announce the death of Russell Mac Askill on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Russell was born in Bay St. Lawrence on Sept. 24 1926, the son of the late J. G. Mac Askill and Dolena (Mac Donald) MacAskill. He is survived by his wife, Bessie (Mac Leod); son, David Port Hawkesbury; daughter, Dolena (Doug) Upper Tantallon; grandchildren, Erin and Keltie; brother, Gordon; sister, Charlotte and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, stepmother, Flora, sisters, Tena and Margaret. Russell worked as a heavy equipment operator and loved nothing more than a good book, "Scotch" music and getting together with old friends and family. Arrangements are under the care of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. There will be no visitation or funeral at Russell’s request. A private graveside ceremony will take place in Aspy Bay at a later date. The family would like to thank the emergency staff at Strait Richmond Hospital and ICU staff at St. Martha’s Hospital in Antigonish especially nurse Chelsea for her kindness.
