Obituary
Please share a memory of Sarah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MacKay (MacDonald), Sarah Clementine "Clemmie", Little Narrows, Victoria Co. (July 13, 1941 – April 13, 2021). It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Clemmie, after a two-month battle with cancer.
She is survived by her husband, Johnie; daughters, Ann Marie MacKay MacNeil, Joanie (Rodney) Munro, and Johna Edwards; grandchildren, Riley, Emma, Grace, and McKenna; and by her sister and best friend, Cassie (Dougie) MacRitchie.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Aggie MacDonald, and many nieces and nephews including her niece, Marie, whose sense of humour brought much laughter to Mom over the years.
Born in Ottawa Brook, she was a daughter of the late James "Jimmy Section" MacDonald and Margaret ("Doctor" Mac Neil) MacDonald. She was a member of St. Barra Parish, Iona.
She was predeceased by siblings, Mary, in infancy, Annie Mae (John Grube), Catherine (Guy LaBerge), Theresa (Johnny MacKenzie), Katie (Angie MacNeil), Alex (Dorothy), Stanley, and Angus (Mary).
Mom was a very caring, quiet, and patient person. In her early years, she worked in the kitchen at St. Rita’s Hospital, Sydney and was a housekeeper in Sydney as well as many homes within the community. She took great pride in her work but maintaining her own home meant the most. We never came home from school without having something fresh from the oven, whether it was her homemade bread and rolls, date squares, war cake, or gumdrop loaf and she always made sure there would be extra for visitors. Anyone stopping by would never leave the house without lunch and a good cup of King Cole tea, more like a few cups! She never took anything for granted and appreciated everything. Her grandchildren meant the world to her and they were her pride and joy. Mom, you are our sunshine.
We would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Genge, Anne Trickett, Homecare and Home Support team, Dr. Ritter, Cathy MacMillan, R.N. Palliative Care, Dr. Mahmoud, Radiation Team, Tom Mac Neil Social Worker, 4B Nurses, and all the staff at Victoria County Memorial Hospital who made mom comfortable in every way. Thank you also to those who sent treats, flowers, cards, and gifts, mom truly appreciated all of them!
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, April 23 in St. Columba Church Centre, Iona.
