UPDATED SAMPSON, Robert "Bob" – Port Hawkesbury formerly of Queensville, Inverness Co. We are saddened to announce the passing of my father, Robert "Bob" Sampson, who died peacefully in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home on Sunday, May 2, 2021. Dad was born on October 26, 1942 in Cow Bay, NS and was the son of the late Francis and Letoile (Parks) Sampson. He is survived by his son, Kevin Sampson (Melanie Landry); grandkids, Madison and Bailey Lukeman; sister, Nancy Unser; brothers, Peter (Michelle) Sampson, Tony (Heather) Sampson; brother-in-law, JW Steele; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, dad was predeceased by his sister, June Steele; brother-in-law, Charles Unser as well as his former wife, Caroline (Sharpe). As a teenager he left NS to go find work in Hamilton, Ont., staying with his sister, June and eventually where he met his wife, Carol. He found work at Steelco Steel Works for a few years, but wanted to be back home. They decided to move back to NS in 1971 and lived in Dundee, until he found a farmhouse in Queensville and there he lived a simple life of farming, gardening, horses and cutting pulpwood. He was a property manager of several apartment buildings in Port Hawkesbury for 15 years or so and did a stint in real estate. He also started a small business and became a small engine mechanic when he was 35, operating out of his garage at the house up until he was 70. "Farmer Bob" was proud of his garden and shared it with the community as most would come out firsthand to chat and get their produce or it was sold to the local markets. He was Woodlot Owner of the year in 2000, he was quite proud of this recognition. He had a great love of the land cutting firewood and pulp every year and produced X-mas trees for a spell. He enjoyed the simple things in life, listening to the radio, a good meal out at any of the local restaurants, visits with friends, walks every day and meeting new people. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and loved his new Goldwing until it became a time that he could not ride any longer. He was truly one of a kind, his spark and outlook of life will truly be missed. We would like to thank all the staff of the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home, as well as the countless health professionals who cared for him throughout his health battles. There are too many to name, but they know who they are. The care and compassion he received did not go unnoticed. A most wonderful team in a most chaotic time. As per dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place and he did not want a funeral. He wanted all of us to have a party and a couple of drinks for him. We are hopeful to have a gathering at our home sometime in the future and play a game of cards in his honour. A celebration of life will take place for family and friends will be held at he home of Kevin Sampson, 1723 Hwy 105 on Saturday, August 21 from 2-4 p.m. Arrangements are under the care of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
