MacEachern, Wayne Joseph - Age 63, of Judique, Cape Breton, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at home with his wife and sons by his side. He was born in Sudbury, Ontario on July 16, 1957 where his dad Bobby was working in a mine at the time. Wayne graduated from Judique Creignish Consolidated School in 1975 and later completed a Bachelor of Arts in English from St. Mary’s University in 1978. He then went on to complete a Sheet Metal trade (red seal certificate). Wayne had many diverse jobs in his lifetime; at the Shelburne School for Boys (during university years), lobster fishing, the Pulp and Paper Mill (then known as NewPage - for short contracts or extended periods of time between 1983 - 2011), Airway Sheet Metal (with his good friend Ronnie MacDonald), numerous sheet metal/construction companies across Cape Breton and working away in Yellowknife, NWT for Great Slave Mechanical (with his brother-in-law, Paul Rogers). In 2014, Wayne was hired by the Strait Regional Centre for Education as a Building Operator, first at Tamarac Education Centre, Port Hawkesbury and then with East Antigonish Education Centre, Monastery. He was affectionately known as "Mr. Wayne" by the students. We would also like to acknowledge Anne Decoste (dad always said you were his right-hand man!). Wayne is survived by his wife of 27 years Arlene (Campbell) MacEachern, his sons Thomas, age 19, who will return to Dalhousie University for second year studies in the fall of 2021; and Dougald, age 16, grade 10, Dalbrae Academy, Mabou. Wayne is also survived by his sister-in-law, Marina (late Robbie), Judique and her children, Marci (Richard), Michael (Lindsay) and Kelsi (Alex) and their children; his siblings; Randy, Calgary and his children, Glen and Jennie Mae; David and his wife Cynthia, and their children, Alisdair and Madison, Miami, Florida; Marie and her husband, D.A MacNeil and their son Logan, Middle Sackville/Judique; Angus (partner Lisa) and his children, Sarah and Rankin, Fredericton, New Brunswick; Glen and his wife Trena, and their children, Christie, Jack and William, Judique; and his former, sisters-in-law, Joan Foote-MacEachern, Bedford and Maria Hartery, Antigonish. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas Robert "Bobby" (2006) and Anna Mae (Rankin) MacEachern (1992) and his brother, Robbie in 1994. He will also be fondly remembered by his in-laws, Ambrose and Catherine Campbell, Judique; his wife’s siblings, Kevin, Yellowknife, NWT, Carly and her husband, John Traves and their children, Ross and Katharine, Halifax; Louise and her husband, Adam Carroll and their children, Tess, Dane and Samuel, Melbourne, Australia, Allan, Halifax; Paula and her husband, Paul Rogers and their children, Cassie, James and Isabelle, Yellowknife, NWT and Mark and his wife Thea and their daughter, Mairin, Yellowknife, NWT. In Tom and Dougie’s eyes, dad was the smartest guy they knew, the best cook, had the biggest muscles, was an atypical father, king of the one-liners, Mr. Fix It, a free spirit, a big Habs fan, well read, the coolest uncle for his nieces and nephews and gave the best hugs. Dad was their world and they, in turn, were his. Despite a big age difference, dad was on their level. Many a dinner conversation would revert back to the 70’s when dad was a teenager. His sons loved to hear these stories and would say, "dad tell us about the time you went to Montreal with Billy Davis in the corvette (if we recall correctly there was a police chase); the trips in his yellow Volkswagen bug (the emergency exit was the back window); or in the convertible with David "Gypsy" Graham, Stanley "Cu" Graham and Artie Graham; the hijinks were legendary, he wondered how his mother survived six teenage boys! The conversation would then turn serious and he would remind the boys that it was probably not a good idea to follow in some of his footsteps. Wayne would want us to remember him cruising down Route 19, in a car he once owned, a red 1970’s Pontiac LeMans convertible, wearing his favourite rock t-shirt, black Converse sneakers, dark sunglasses and an afro, singing along with Bob Dylan and making sure to burn some rubber along the way. In later years, the hair was shorter, but the attire remained the same. In the 37 years that they were together, his wife knew that the only person Wayne wanted to be was Wayne. His focus was the most important things in life; dropping Thomas off at university or teaching Dougald how to drive. If he wasn’t at work, then his favourite place in the world was at home. Goodbyes are hard, so we will say see you later. As we move forward, we will need time to heal. Cremation, no service. If dad had some time for some last-minute words for his sons, he would become emotional, teary-eyed and would say; Thomas and Dougald, you are truly, "the best of me".
