Gatza, Winnifred Margaret - 92, Formerly of Upper River Denys passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Oceanview Continuing Care, Dartmouth N.S. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late James and Sarah (Layman) Campbell. ‘Winnie’ graduated from Nursing in 1958 and had a long career which she always enjoyed. Living in River Denys raising her family was, for Winnie, the most rewarding thing that she did in her life. The door was always open to anyone who stopped by and tea was always served. (Mandatory!) Winnie was a member of St. Dionysius Parish, River Denys Station. She is survived by daughters Elaine (Glenn) Graham, New Waterford; Carolee Gatza, Neguac; Belinda (Arthur) Mason, Ontario; Bernadine Benjamin, Moncton; Lynn (Ed) Lapthorne, Lantz; Paula Gatza, Moncton; Son, Peter Gatza, Middle Sackville, N.S. Winnie had 19 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Besides her parents, Winnie was predeceased by all of her siblings including one brother, Leo, who died at the age of 12; brothers, Art, Danny, Gerald, and Leo Campbell; sisters Dorothy Oliver and Marion MacDonald. Winnie was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, Peter Gatza. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13 at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be held at St. Mary of the Angels Roman Catholic Church, Glendale at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14 with Father Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial to follow at St. Dionysius Cemetery in River Denys Station. Should you choose, donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Parkinson Canada or The Alzheimer Society of Canada.
