Ina Margaret (Harris MacLean) Marshall
Port Hawkesbury
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Ina Margaret (Harris MacLean) Marshall, on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at the age of 91, in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home.
Ina was born in Dundee, Richmond County, to Sadie Margaret (MacLean) and Charles Harris MacLean. After completing high school in St. Peter’s, she attended the Nova Scotia Normal College; upon graduation, she worked as a teacher in West Bay, Inverness County, for close to twenty years. In 1970, she left teaching to devote her life to caring for her family.
Above all, Ina loved being in her garden and took great joy in seeing the seeds she planted sprout and flourish as summers progressed. During the winters, she enjoyed all types of handicrafts from rug-hooking and sewing to needlepoint and knitting. Her sense of duty to her family and to her community were strong, and she could always be counted on to donate baking or crafts for community hall events in West Bay and St. George’s Channel.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to: the homecare workers, neighbours, friends, and family members whose support enabled Ina to live in her home independently as she aged; the staff of the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home for the care and compassion shown during her residence there; and Dr. James Collins for the many years of care he provided as her family physician.
She is survived by her daughters, Yvonne MacLean of Dartmouth; Charlene Marshall (Daniel Poirier) of River Bourgeois; and Cheryl Marshall (Brian Altheim) of Halifax. Ina was predeceased by her husband, Charles "Sonny" Marshall; sisters, Audrey and Jennie; brothers, Elwin, Charles, and Malcolm.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and burial will be held in the summer on a date to be announced. In Ina’s memory, a donation can be made to the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation (earmarked Dementia) or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the care of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
