Austin, Flora Jessie (Laidlaw) –Skye Glen, Inverness County, passed away peacefully in her home in Skye Glen on her 85th Birthday, Monday, December 21, 2009. Born in Troy, she was a daughter of the late Murdock and Annie (MacKinnon) Laidlaw. Flora was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Clair Austin. A former school teacher and farmer’s wife, Flora recently received a 60 year pin, marking membership in the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed a good cup of hot, hot tea; her friends at the Whycocomagh Seniors Club and her work with the UCW. She is survived by her sons, Jim (Ferne) and Darryl both of Skye Glen daughters, Debbie, Chester; Merlene (Gary Kenward), Prospect; and Alison (Brian Illsley), Berwick; sister, Anne (George) Hanrahan, Vancouver, B.C.; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren. Flora was predeceased by her son, Bradley, in infancy; granddaughter Jennifer in infancy and brothers, George and Ernest. Visitation will be held 2-9 p.m. Tuesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, in Stewart United Church with Rev.
